391 Meters left for reunion of continents

Mantling and welding works of 42 steel decks over 59 have been completed in the Bridge Project. Only 391 meters left for the reunion of Asia and Europe continents.
First stage of steel deck mantling process is completed for the 3rd Bosphorus Bridge project realized by ICA. 42 steel decks over 59, the heaviest of which weights 923 tons have been mantled and welded. Only 391 meters left for the reunion of Asia and Europe continents. Steel deck mantling and welding processes will restart once the installation of the giant crane called ‘’Lifting Gantry’’ is completed.

Responsible of 3rd Bridge Steel Deck reminded that normally they placed one steel deck on each sides once in 9 days in average and said ‘’We started a new stage in steel deck mantling process that we started at the end of March. We placed 21 steel decks on each European and Asian continents including the passage segment no D00 in European and Asian parts. With the placement of the last steel deck, the distance between the two continents decreased to 391 meters. Before, we used to use cranes called ‘’Derrick Crane’’ for steel deck mantling process. Now, we will start using a different crane called ‘’Lifting Gantry’’. With this crane, we will see that all decks will be placed on the 3rd Bosphorus Bridge in the following months.’’

1500 people work day and night in a total of three factory fields for the construction of 59 steel decks. Steel sheets brought from Southern Korea are prepared for panel production in the factory in İzmit Gebze and then panel production starts in the factory in İstanbul Tuzla. Panels are shipped to Yalova Altınova for creating the steel decks after production.
