IC İçtaş Construction has also completed Terminal 1 of King Khalid International Airport

IC İçtaş Construction, which was responsible for the engineering and construction of King Khalid International Airport—one of the world’s largest airports by area and a symbol of Saudi Arabia’s modern face during its transformation— has successfully completed Terminal 1—an international terminal with an annual capacity of 14 million passengers—following the completion of Terminals 3 and 4.

IC İçtaş Construction, which will begin construction of Terminal 2 in the coming days, will add another milestone to the successful examples of Turkish engineering abroad by reaching an annual capacity of 50 million passengers upon completion of the project, which has a total value of $1.4 billion.

IC İçtaş Construction, which has been involved in prestigious projects both domestically and internationally since its founding, has completed the construction of the first international terminal and connecting buildings at King Khalid International Airport in Saudi Arabia, for which it was responsible for both engineering and construction. The terminal’s opening ceremony was attended by Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, Minister of Transportation and Logistics Services of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; Abdulaziz Al-Duailej, President of Civil Aviation; Read Al-Idrissi, CEO of MATARAT Holding; Ayman Abdulaziz AboAbah, CEO of Riyadh Airport; Fırat Çeçen, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of IC Holding and Chairman of the Board of Directors of IC İçtaş Construction; and Reha Denemeç, Member of the Board of Directors of IC Holding.

The construction of Terminal 1, which was officially opened, involved 17,000 metric tons of steel fabrication, 61,000 square meters of metal ceiling, 65,000 square meters of travertine floor and wall cladding, a 400-square-meter video wall system, 117 elevators and escalators, a baggage handling system, and specialized airport systems. In Terminal 1, which will increase the airport’s passenger capacity by 14 million passengers per year, all architectural components, electromechanical equipment, and information technology systems were upgraded, and 42 E-Gate systems and a 5-kilometer baggage handling system were put into service.

As part of the project carried out in partnership with Al Rashid Trading and Contracting Company (RTCC)—Saudi Arabia’s second-largest construction and contracting firm— IC İçtaş İnşaat, which successfully completed and delivered the engineering and construction work for Terminals 3 and 4 in 2022, will begin construction of the Terminal 2 building next month following the opening of Terminal 1. The total contract value for the four terminals is approximately $1.4 billion.

A Turkish Touch on Saudi Arabia’s Transformation

In line with its Vision 2030 Plan, which it unveiled as part of its process of opening up to the outside world, Saudi Arabia aims to become a global trade hub through major investments in transportation, energy, and communications infrastructure. Investments are planned in 12 cities across the country, primarily in Riyadh, with the goal of improving quality of life and accelerating economic development.

Once all terminals at King Khalid International Airport—one of the country’s largest recent investments as part of this transformation—are completed, the airport is expected to serve 50 million passengers annually with world-class service.

IC İçtaş Construction stands out as the largest company in Saudi Arabia to have carried out large-scale and prestigious projects over the past 20 years.

International Project

With a total area of 170,000 square meters, King Khalid International Airport is one of the world’s largest airports by area; 3,500 people from 17 countries are working on its renovation project.
