IC İçtaş Construction Completes One of Saudi Arabia’s Largest Investments

Following the completion of Terminals 3 and 4 at King Khalid International Airport, IC İçtaş Construction has now also completed construction of International Terminals 1 and 2. Ranked among the world’s largest airports by area and completed in 60 months, King Khalid International Airport has increased its annual passenger capacity to 30 million with its renovated terminals and connecting structures.

A comprehensive transformation process at King Khalid International Airport, for which IC İçtaş Construction was responsible for engineering and construction, has been successfully completed. Having previously delivered Terminals 3 and 4, IC İçtaş Construction has now completed all terminal structures at the airport with the completion of Terminals 1 and 2. At the ceremony, attended by Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Riyadh, Minister of Transportation Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, and GACA President Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Duailej; IC Holding Board Chairman İbrahim Çeçen, IC İçtaş Construction Board Chairman Fırat Çeçen, IC Holding Board Member Reha Denemeç, IC İçtaş Construction General Manager İbrahim Dönmez, and IC İçtaş Construction Regional Manager Cemil Beşen were in attendance.

King Khalid International Airport, one of the world’s largest airports by area, has significantly increased its passenger capacity and service quality with the completion of these terminal investments. As part of the work undertaken by IC İçtaş Construction, the architectural, electromechanical, and technological infrastructure of the terminals was modernized, bringing passenger comfort, operational efficiency, and safety criteria up to international standards. With all terminals now complete, the airport is poised to become one of the region’s most important transportation hubs in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals.

Multidisciplinary Expertise in Airport Projects

IC İçtaş Construction General Manager İbrahim Dönmez stated in his assessment: “Airports are extremely complex structures that require numerous disciplines to work simultaneously with a high degree of coordination. “The experience we have gained through the airport projects we have implemented in Turkey and abroad constitutes our greatest strength in large-scale projects such as King Khalid International Airport. In these projects, we do more than just build structures; we offer comprehensive solutions covering all processes, from passenger flow to operational efficiency,” he said.

A Large-Scale, High-Tech Terminal Investment

As part of the terminal projects implemented at King Khalid International Airport, construction and renovation work carried out across a 300,000-square-meter area completely renewed all architectural components, electromechanical equipment, and information technology infrastructure from start to finish. As part of the project, which employed 4,000 people, 10,000 metric tons of steel were fabricated, a 6-kilometer baggage handling system was installed, 82 E-Gates were deployed, and advanced technology systems supporting airport operations were put into service. The terminal buildings were designed to accommodate heavy passenger traffic and were implemented with a flexible and sustainable operational infrastructure.

These efforts by IC İçtaş Construction have also positioned the airport as a global leader in the field of passenger experience. King Khalid International Airport was ranked among the world’s top three airports in the passenger experience category in the AirHelp Score 2025 Report, which evaluated more than 200 airports.
