Long Thanh Airport, Built by Turkish Engineers, Receives Top Marks from the Vietnamese Government

Long Thanh International Airport, Vietnam’s largest infrastructure project, is taking shape under the leadership of IC İçtaş Construction as the airport of the future, thanks to its focus on advanced technology and sustainability. While BIM (Building Information Modeling) technology is accelerating the construction process, environmental impacts are also being minimized.

Recently, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited Long Thanh International Airport to conduct an on-site inspection. Expressing his satisfaction with the progress of the construction process, the Prime Minister emphasized the project’s strategic contribution to the country’s aviation sector. Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha also met with IC Holding Board Member Reha Denemeç on February 17, stating that Long Thanh Airport is a “symbolic project that strengthens relations between Vietnam and Turkey.”

Rising in Vietnam’s Dong Nai province and planned to serve 100 million passengers annually upon completion, Long Thanh International Airport is being built by the VIETUR Consortium—led by IC İçtaş Construction—using modern technologies and environmentally friendly approaches.

The BIM (Building Information Modeling) technology used in the construction of Long Thanh Airport—a project with a total investment of $14.9 billion—is revolutionizing project management. Thanks to 3D modeling, architects and engineers can plan the construction process in detail, identifying potential errors in advance and minimizing costs. Project officials also note that BIM technology has made the process more transparent and efficient by improving coordination among different departments.

Sustainability and an eco-friendly approach are among the top priorities

Long Thanh Airport is being built not only with modern technologies but also with an environmentally conscious approach. Regular analyses are conducted in accordance with the Environmental Impact Assessment report approved by Vietnam’s Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, and improvements are made to align with sustainable development goals. Project officials state that they aim to contribute to the region’s strategic development through environmentally friendly methods.

A New Phase in Steel Structure Assembly Has Begun

Following the completion of the reinforced concrete structures in the airport construction, the project has moved on to one of its most critical phases: steel structure assembly. The assembly of the main steel truss beams is being carried out using state-of-the-art cranes and Strand Jack systems. These innovative methods maximize workplace safety while also accelerating the assembly process.

Contribution to Employment and Economic Development

The VIETUR Consortium, led by IC İçtaş Construction, represents a successful example of Vietnam-Turkey cooperation. The consortium consists of 51% Turkish companies and 49% from nine local Vietnamese firms. This partnership directly contributes to the local economy and employment. Currently, 703 white-collar and 1,847 blue-collar workers are employed on the airport project, and this number is expected to increase further as the project progresses.

Vietnam’s Gateway to the Global Transportation Network

Planned to serve more than 100 million passengers annually, Long Thanh International Airport will become one of the most important aviation hubs not only in Vietnam but also in Southeast Asia. The airport will also support regional development through its contributions to the tourism, trade, and logistics sectors.
