One of the world’s largest underground natural gas storage expansion projects in salt formations

IC İçtaş İnşaat is carrying out the design, procurement, and construction work for the Tuz Gölü Underground Natural Gas Storage Facility Capacity Expansion Project under an EPC contract. Twenty-six active underground salt storage caverns are being created at depths of 1,100–1,400 meters through controlled cavern dissolution mining and simultaneous drilling-leaching operations; as part of this project, a surface gas processing plant, turbo compressor systems, a TEG dehydration unit, and natural gas metering and filtration facilities are being constructed. The project also includes approximately 118 km of freshwater transmission lines, 30 km of brine discharge lines, 20 km of gas connection lines, and 154 kV and 34.5 kV power transmission systems.

The project, which aims to increase storage capacity from approximately 1.2 billion m³ to 3.2 billion m³ and daily production capacity from 40 million Sm³/day to 80 million Sm³/day. The project is being implemented in accordance with World Bank and AIIB financing requirements, featuring comprehensive environmental and social monitoring programs. Upon completion, it will strengthen Turkey’s energy security, reduce supply risks, and increase gas supply flexibility.
