Türkevi, which will be built on the site of the former Consulate General building—located across from the United Nations headquarters in New York and now completely demolished—will be constructed on a 20,000-square-meter site. Following a 36-month construction period, the building—which will rise toward the sky in the shape of a tulip—will reflect Turkish culture, history, and architecture.

The 35-story Türkevi, to be built in New York through a partnership between IC İçtaş Construction—ranked as the “3rd Largest Construction Company" in the Fortune 500 Turkey ranking, and Tishman, one of the leading construction firms in the United States, held the groundbreaking ceremony for the 35-story Türkevi in New York, with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in attendance. Also attending the ceremony were Chief of the General Staff Hulusi Akar, Deputy Prime Minister Recep Akdağ, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Minister of Justice Abdülhamit Gül, Minister for European Union Affairs Ömer Çelik, Minister of Economy Nihat Zeybekci, and Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Berat Albayrak.

Çeçen: The new Türkevi construction will be befitting of Turkey’s prestige

Fırat Çeçen, Chairman of the Board of Directors at IC İçtaş Construction, stated that they were honored and proud to undertake such a large and special project in New York, adding, “Considering the importance and unique features of the project to be realized, as well as its 36-month construction period; we are embarking on a construction process that requires the utmost care, as the building will be located directly across from the United Nations headquarters. We will be working in the city’s busiest area, within a very limited space, under strict security and discipline. We will complete the Türkevi, which will be located in the heart of New York, in a manner befitting Turkey’s prestige. I wish it to be auspicious and bring good fortune to all of us,” he said.

The “tulip,” a symbol of traditional Turkish art, will rise into the New York sky

The new Türkevi, to be built on the site of the former Consulate General building directly across from the United Nations (UN) headquarters, will be used by the Turkish mission at the UN. In addition to the offices of the Permanent Mission to the UN and the Consulate General in New York, the building—which will also feature a residence on the upper floors where diplomats can stay—will be constructed through a partnership between IC İçtaş Construction and Tishman.
Designed by the U.S. architectural firm Perkins Eastman, the building will be constructed on a 20,000-square-meter site and will reflect Turkish culture, history, and architecture. Following Chief Architect Jonathan Stark’s research during his visit to Turkey, the Türkevi building—which incorporates traditional Turkish architectural motifs, particularly Seljuk motifs—will rise toward the sky in the shape of a tulip.

With its modern appearance, the new Türkevi will be an elegant and iconic structure joining New York’s skyscrapers.

The environmentally friendly Türkevi will be “LEED Silver” certified

The building, which will feature a 200-seat auditorium, meeting and exhibition halls, and an underground parking garage for 20 vehicles, will also include a system to collect and store rainwater. Türkevi will also hold “LEED Silver” green building certification. ,
