The foundation for the pump station of Unit 1 at the Akkuyu NGS site is being built

Construction has begun on the foundation slab for the pump station of Power Unit 1 at the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), which is currently under construction in Mersin. As part of the work, which involves approximately 400 people, formwork reinforcement and assembly work is continuing at the site.

Designed as a structural complex to supply seawater to the nuclear power plant’s main technical facilities, the pump station is an integral part of the Akkuyu NPP’s modern, high-tech hydraulic coastal infrastructure. A total of four pump stations will be constructed, with one facility for each power unit of the plant.

The foundation slab of the pump station is laid at a depth of 16.5 meters below sea level. Construction is being carried out under the protection of concrete diaphragms that are 1 meter thick and securely held in place by three rows of special anchorage elements, ensuring they can withstand seawater pressure. Each wall of the diaphragms features three rows of connections, with 128 in each row. In total, there are 384 anchor connections. While the above-ground portion of the station building exceeds 11 meters in height, the main technological equipment and water intake section will also be installed underground.

Preparations for the construction of the pump station for Units 3 and 4 of the Akkuyu NPP are also continuing.
