Welding work on the ASBH at Unit 1 of the Akkuyu NPP has been completed

Welding work on the main circulation pipeline (MCP) has been completed at the first power unit of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), which is currently under construction in the Gülnar district of Mersin. The welding operations, which began on March 9, involved joining 28 connection points.

After each weld seam was completed, engineers evaluated the quality of the connections. Heat treatment of the connection points was also carried out in parallel with the welding operations.

The quality of the work and its compliance with performance requirements—carried out by the TITAN 2 IC İçtaş İnşaat AŞ joint venture—were verified by experts from Akkuyu Nuclear Inc., the Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NDK), and an independent construction inspection firm.

In the next phase, experts will coat the inner surfaces of the welds—which will serve as an additional layer of protection for the pipeline coatings—with special stainless steel coatings.

Certificates of appreciation were presented to the personnel involved in the work

At a ceremony held following the completion of the ASBH welding process, Anastasia Zoteeva, General Manager of Akkuyu Nuclear Inc., presented certificates of appreciation and gifts to the experts and workers involved in the project.

In her speech at the ceremony, Zoteeva noted that the work had been well-coordinated and efficient throughout all stages of the installation, stating, “We can say that we have taken an important step toward our main goal of commissioning the first power unit of the Akkuyu NPP.”
