Light has been seen in the Çamlık Tunnel, one of the two tunnels in the 3rd Bosphorus Bridge and Northern Marmara Project. Excavation work in the tunnel is now 71 percent complete.

A milestone has been reached in the Çamlık Tunnel, one of the two tunnels on the Asian side of the 3rd Bosphorus Bridge and Northern Marmara Highway Project. In the tunnel construction, which is proceeding in six phases in each tube, the two ends of the tunnel are being connected in one tube, and it was noted that this stage will also increase the pace of construction.

An official describing the work stated, “Due to the tunnel’s large cross-sectional area and its geologically weak structure, progress is being made using a pilot tunnel method. We have a sensitive excavation area, but we have continued our work as quickly as possible. We have successfully crossed to the other side in the north tube. The first stage of the six-stage excavation in the north tube has thus been completed. Additionally, the excavation work being carried out simultaneously is 71 percent complete. Furthermore, the interior lining of the Çamlık Tunnel is ongoing. "We have completed 8 percent of the interior lining work," he said.

The official noted that they had also begun concrete work in tandem with the completion of the support structures, stating, "Reinforced concrete work has begun; concrete for the beams and arches is being poured. We are placing 12-meter-long arch concrete sections using steel forms. We have made progress of approximately 100 meters,” he explained.

In the tunnel located on the Asian side of the project, the north tube will be 555 meters long, while the south tube will be 653 meters long. With a diameter of 22 meters and an excavation area of 236 square meters, the Çamlık Tunnel is the widest tunnel in Europe.
