Dismantling of the Third Bridge Is Complete

Oct 01, 2026

Dismantling of the “catwalk” and “tower top bent” on the 3rd Bosphorus Bridge has been completed. A total of 10,000 metric tons of temporary equipment was dismantled and lowered to the construction site from heights of several meters using various cranes.

Final adjustments are being made on the 3rd Bosphorus Bridge, a project implemented by ICA, following the historic connection of the Asian and European sides. The dismantling operations carried out as part of this process have now concluded. With the dismantling of the temporary equipment, work on the bridge’s main cables has reached its final stage.

A 3rd Bridge official stated, “The catwalk dismantling work has been completed. The operation to dismantle the catwalk and the steel cables supporting it was just as challenging as the installation process. We completed the dismantling of the catwalk cables in the main span, the temporary connection elements, and the tower top bents on the bridge towers in May. This month, we finished dismantling the catwalk cables—weighing approximately 1,000 metric tons—and the tower-top scaffolding. Throughout the dismantling process, we completed the removal of a total of 10,000 metric tons of temporary equipment.”

Referring to the work, a 3rd Bridge official said, “We used several different methods to dismantle the catwalk. For the dismantling operations, we used tower cranes, special drum cranes located at the top of the towers, and mobile cranes at the deck level. During the dismantling process, access to the site was completely restricted outside the safe zones established by the occupational safety teams. Thanks to this, we completed the dismantling work without a single accident,” he added.
