Context
Turkey's Indigenous Nuclear Reactor Development Project
A strategic partnership aimed at establishing fourth-generation small modular reactor technology in Turkey

IC Nuclear and Industry is engaged in a strategic partnership with U.S.-based ARC Clean Technology to evaluate the potential of the Gen-IV ARC-100 small modular reactor—based on sodium-cooled fast reactor technology—in the Turkish and regional markets. The 100 MWe-class ARC-100 technology is designed not only for electricity generation but also to enable industrial applications requiring high-temperature process heat. Under this collaboration, the goals include analyzing the technical, economic, and regulatory feasibility of this advanced reactor technology, identifying potential areas of application, and developing a long-term roadmap for commercialization and industrialization.

This work, carried out as part of Turkey’s Indigenous Nuclear Reactor Development Project, aims to contribute to the country’s goal of reaching 20 GW of nuclear capacity by 2050 and, within this framework, its target of 5,000 MW in small modular reactors. IC Nuclear and Industry is working on an implementation potential that could extend to as many as 10 reactors in Turkey and 20 in the region in the long term; this collaboration stands out as a strategic reflection of the deepening relations between the U.S. and Turkey in the field of civil nuclear energy.
