7 Million Cubic Meters of Asphalt Were Paved as Part of the Project

Asphalt work is continuing along the highway route of the 3rd Bridge and Northern Marmara Highway Project. To date, 7 million cubic meters of asphalt have been laid as part of the project.

Asphalt work continues on the 3rd Bosphorus Bridge and Northern Marmara Highway Project, implemented by ICA. Alongside asphalt and finishing work at the project site, work on Toll Collection Systems and highway service facilities is proceeding simultaneously.

A project official stated, “In highway construction, there are sequential phases of work; as soon as earthworks are completed, drainage work begins. Part of the drainage work is carried out after the superstructure work to collect and divert surface water that will flow onto the highway, Therefore, the superstructure work has begun to ensure these tasks can be completed. The drainage work has also been completed, with the aim of protecting the construction from the effects of rain, snow, and other elements, especially before the harsh winter months. Before hot mix paving began, excavation and backfilling work in the earthworks was completed, and leveling work—known as “terracing”—was carried out to prepare the route for the superstructure. Subsequently, prior to the superstructure work and in parallel with the completion of the highway drainage work, the construction of the layers preceding the hot mix—known as the “cold mix”—was completed. “In the final phase, work is underway on asphalt paving, lighting, landscaping, guardrails, traffic markings, fencing, and lane line painting,” he said.

The first asphalt was laid in June 2014. To date, 7 million cubic meters of asphalt have been laid, and 87 percent of the asphalt work has been completed.
