A large-scale port engineering project implemented on the Black Sea coast

IC İçtaş Construction has successfully completed the Karasu Port project under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model. As part of the work carried out under the challenging maritime conditions of the Black Sea, a 1,650-meter-long breakwater, a 480-meter-long quay wall, 127,000 m³ of concrete fill, and 2.1 million m³ of rock fill were constructed; These marine structures were integrated with superstructure works encompassing a Ro-Ro pier, a general cargo terminal, a container yard, a back-of-dock storage area, port buildings, electrical-SCADA and mechanical systems, as well as a lighthouse and navigation facilities.

In this project, where construction of the breakwater, quay wall, fill, construction, marine, electrical, mechanical, and navigation systems—have been carried out in a coordinated manner, making the port one of Turkey’s strategic logistics gateways on the Black Sea coast with an annual handling capacity of 1.5 million metric tons of general cargo and 50,000 TEU of containers. Contributing to the expansion of regional maritime trade, the support of industrial exports and imports, and the strengthening of multimodal connectivity, the Port of Karasu is one of IC İçtaş İnşaat’s key projects, reflecting the company’s expertise in large-scale marine engineering and port infrastructure.

Key Features

It was developed as a modern commercial port on Turkey's Black Sea coast under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model.

Critical marine structures have been completed, including a 1,650-meter breakwater, a 480-meter quay wall, 127,000 m³ of concrete fill, and 2.1 million m³ of rock fill.

An annual handling capacity of 1.5 million metric tons of general cargo and 50,000 TEU of containers has been established.

It was constructed as an integrated infrastructure comprising a Ro-Ro terminal, a container yard, a hinterland storage area, and port buildings.

The electrical, SCADA, and mechanical systems, as well as the lighthouse and navigation facilities, have been fully completed.

As one of Turkey’s strategic logistics gateways on the Black Sea, it has contributed to regional and international maritime trade.
