The Renovated St. Petersburg Pulkovo-1 Domestic Terminal Opens for Service February 4, 2015

Oct 01, 2026

The legendary "Pulkovo-1" building at the "Pulkovo" airport complex was completed following restoration and reconstruction work and opened for operation on February 3, 2015. The building is connected to the main building of the Central Passenger Terminal via a connecting gallery and is designed for domestic departures and arrivals.

The "Pulkovo-1" building had been closed on February 28, 2014, for restoration and reconstruction. The general contractor for these activities was “IC İçtaş-Astaldi Construction Corporation.” Eleven months later, the terminal reopened to serve the people of St. Petersburg and all visitors to the city. The first flight to “Pulkovo-1” departed from Moscow and landed at Pulkovo on February 4, 2015.

"Pulkovo-1" is now part of the Central Passenger Terminal and is designed to serve airlines operating domestic flights. Airport entry and exit, check-in, and pre-flight procedures will take place in the main building of the terminal complex. Domestic passengers will then proceed to “Pulkovo-1” via the connecting gallery linking the two buildings. Domestic passengers will board their flights from the renovated complex and land there as well; from there, they will proceed (via the connecting gallery) to the main building, to the baggage claim area, and then exit to the city.

The interior of “Pulkovo-1” has also been transformed, making it more spacious and airy. However, the building’s exterior, along with the iconic glass “cups” on its roof, retains the familiar silhouette of St. Petersburg. The central part of the renovated complex has been transformed into a comfortable waiting area. The total number of gates at “Pulkovo-1” has been increased from 9 to 16. Six boarding bridges have been added from the platform to the building, and 10 doors have been reconfigured to facilitate boarding buses. The total area of the “Pulkovo-1” terminal has increased by 43% following reconstruction, rising from 42,751.1 square meters to 61,134.1 square meters.

In addition, the building’s load-bearing structures were reinforced; the power supply system, ventilation, air conditioning, fire protection systems, information systems, security camera systems, and access control and management systems were completely overhauled.
