A railway engineering project—comprising 28 tunnels and 21 viaducts—that forms part of Turkey’s first high-speed rail corridor

IC İçtaş İnşaat has successfully completed construction work on two sections of the Ankara–Istanbul High-Speed Railway Project. A double-track high-speed railway infrastructure and superstructure, designed for a speed of 250 km/h and totaling 158 kilometers in length, has been constructed; as part of this project, 28 railway tunnels with a total length of approximately 38 kilometers and 21 railway viaducts with a total length of approximately 10 kilometers were constructed. During the work carried out in complex and mountainous terrain, approximately 526,000 m³ of structural concrete was poured, 3,198 precast prestressed beams were produced, and more than 135 kilometers of bored pile foundations were installed.

The project, in which tunnel, viaduct, bridge, and earthwork activities were carried out in a coordinated manner to meet strict geometric tolerances and high-speed railway engineering standards, constituted a critical section of Turkey’s first high-speed railway corridor connecting Ankara and Istanbul. Contributing to shorter intercity travel times, increased rail transport capacity, and sustainable mobility, the project is one of IC İçtaş İnşaat’s key references, reflecting the company’s expertise in large-scale high-speed rail infrastructure.

Key Features

It was constructed as a double-track high-speed railway with a total length of 158 km, designed for a speed of 250 km/h.

With 28 railway tunnels (approximately 38 km) and 21 railway viaducts (approximately 10 km), it represents one of Turkey’s most extensive railway engineering projects.

Approximately 526,000 m³ of structural concrete and 3,198 precast prestressed beams were used.

The project was carried out in complex and mountainous terrain, involving the installation of more than 135 kilometers of bored piles.

It constitutes a critical section of Turkey's first high-speed rail corridor connecting Ankara and Istanbul.

It has contributed to sustainable, high-capacity rail transportation by reducing travel times between cities.
