The Mahmutbey–Bahçeşehir–Esenyurt Metro Line is one of the major metro projects implemented to increase rail transit capacity and enhance intra-city accessibility in Istanbul’s western corridor.

Under the project undertaken by IC İçtaş İnşaat, a comprehensive rail infrastructure—including an 18.6-kilometer metro line built entirely underground, 11 underground stations, a 23.9-kilometer EPB TBM tunnel, an 11.8-kilometer-long NATM tunnel, a railway viaduct, and connecting structures—all of which constitute a comprehensive rail system infrastructure.

In this project, carried out beneath a dense urban fabric, advanced engineering solutions are being implemented using a combination of EPB TBM and NATM tunneling methods. While the tunnels, stations, and connecting structures are being built with the highest engineering precision, a safe, uninterrupted, and efficient construction process is being managed in coordination with existing transportation and infrastructure systems. Upon completion, the Mahmutbey–Bahçeşehir–Esenyurt Metro Line will integrate with Istanbul’s existing and planned rail networks to increase public transportation capacity; enhancing accessibility while contributing to shorter travel times, reduced traffic congestion, and the promotion of sustainable urban mobility.

Key Features

A metro line 18.6 kilometers long, built entirely underground.

A comprehensive rail system infrastructure consisting of 11 underground stations, 23.9 km of EPB TBM tunnel, 11.8 km of NATM tunnel, a 520-meter railway viaduct, crossover tunnels, and railway connection structures.

The EPB TBM project is one of the exemplary projects in the fields of advanced tunneling and urban infrastructure engineering, where EPB TBM, NATM, cut-and-cover, and viaduct construction methods are applied together within the same project.

Conducting safe excavation and construction processes with a high degree of engineering precision beneath a dense urban fabric using six EPB Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs).

The route, which runs primarily underground, will help reduce the environmental impact of construction activities thanks to advanced tunnel-boring technologies and environmental management practices.

To support the expansion of public transportation, improve intra-city accessibility, and advance sustainable urban development goals by strengthening integration with Istanbul’s existing and future rail transit lines.
