The first airport in Turkey and Europe built on reclaimed land

IC İçtaş Construction has successfully completed the Ordu-Giresun Airport project, which was carried out under the challenging geographical conditions of the Black Sea. As the first airport in Turkey and Europe built on a marine fill, the project is a model transportation investment that combines marine engineering, coastal protection structures, and airport infrastructure.

As part of the work carried out by IC İçtaş Construction, a land reclamation area exceeding 7.5 million square meters was created; approximately 22 million metric tons of rock fill were used to construct the runway, apron, taxiways, and coastal protection structures. The 3,000-meter-long runway was designed to meet international standards for air transportation infrastructure.

Brought to life with advanced coastal engineering solutions tailored to the Black Sea’s wave, current, and seabed conditions, the Ordu-Giresun Airport has not only strengthened the region’s transportation infrastructure but has also made significant contributions to tourism, trade, and economic development. As one of the few airports in the world built on a marine fill, the project stands as a key reference showcasing IC İçtaş İnşaat’s expertise in large-scale infrastructure, marine engineering, and airport projects.
